Provenance: This lithograph is from the volume " Le Ballet" by Boris Kochno, published in 1954 (Paris: Hachette) . The author was the personal assistant of Serge Diaghilev. Picasso met him in about 1921 when he began working with the ballet Russes to design the decor for the ballet “Cuadro Flamenco”. In the same year Picasso made two portraits of Kochno which are now in the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris. Kochno stayed working with Diaghilev until the latter's death in 1929 and between 1945 and 1951 he was in charge of the Ballets des Champs Elysees. For the book Picasso made this lithograph which represents a woman dancing.
